  • REGULATORY EFFECT OF ACUPUNCTURE ON BRAIN: PERCEPTION, INTEGRATION AND FEEDBACK OF INFORMATION ACROSS THE SENSES

Brain research and brain disease are two common terms in the field of brain science. In recent years, great progress has been made in brain research, but extensive work is still needed to understand brain function at the molecular, cellular, and system levels, as well as to unravel the pathogenesis of brain diseases, and to develop new therapies. As one kind of non-pharmacologic therapy with the most profound influence in the world today, acupuncture has developed a preliminary understanding of brain function and brain diseases at least 2000 years ago. Currently, under the influence of interdisciplinary research, the research on the treatment of brain diseases in acupuncture is constantly enriched and updated. At present, this field has become a hot spot for many researchers in the world. It is worth noting that some researchers have begun to try to interpret the regulatory effects of acupuncture on the brain by analyzing various kinds of data collected for the brain's response to acupuncture. And this may include a process that transcends the perception, integration and feedback of sensory information considered by traditional views.

To better understand the regulatory effect of acupuncture on brain, we propose this Feature Topic to provide an overview of advances in this field. We hope this will be of great significance for research on acupuncture and brain.

POTENTIAL TOPICS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

    ·        Preclinical and animal investigation of acupuncture regulates brain function.

    ·        Clinical study of acupuncture for brain diseases and its mechanism.
